TEAM launches pioneering Energy Management System framework

TEAM in co-operation with Vilnis Vesma of VESMA.COM have launched a low-cost framework for a paperless, web-enabled energy management system complying with BS EN 16001 and ISO 50001.

This innovative system is designed to take a lot of the hard work out of setting up your organisation’s Energy Management System to enable you to develop and implement a policy, identify significant areas of energy consumption and target energy reductions.

TEAM’s wiki50001.com system is easy to use, completely paperless and highly visible throughout the organisation. Full indexing to the current BS EN 16001 standard and upcoming ISO 50001 ensures that auditing and assessment are easy and straight forward. Common elements (such as a minimally-compliant energy policy) are already built in, along with explanatory help for every element.

This framework is ideal for any organisation setting up an Energy Management System, from SMEs to large public and private sector organisations as well as consultants who are planning to use the system on behalf of clients. To take the hassle out of initial implementation, TEAM hosts the system at no annual cost on triply-redundant servers for absolute security. Each installation is private to the user organisation, password-protected with various levels of access privilege.

Wiki50001.com uses MediaWiki, free website software originally utilised by Wikipedia and now operated by thousands of organisations throughout the world. The framework is based upon the successful implementation of TEAM’s own ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Quality and Environmental Management Systems. Wiki technology allows collaborative development and maintenance of the management system, so colleagues at different locations can work on it together even if they are away from base. It saves time and cost by enabling internal and external audits, consultancy support, and even some aspects of assessment for certification to be carried out remotely. Crucially, the wiki platform has inherently excellent document-control features such as the ability to lock final versions, or view, compare, and reinstate earlier ones.

BS EN 16001 represents the latest best practice in energy management, building upon existing national standards and initiatives. Whilst BS EN 16001 itself is not a CRC Early Action Metric, the standard can be used to contribute to recognition of carbon reductions which have already been achieved. As well as enhancing energy efficiency, an Energy Management System can cut costs and reduce carbon emissions providing you with a competitive advantage.
