Working alongside local charity Worktree (formerly Countec) for the past 3 years, TEAM has accepted school pupils from around the local community from years 10 & 11 for work experience. At TEAM we happily invite young people with a keen interest in a career in energy and sustainability to be part of the business for 2 weeks. We seek to help young people to become aware of career paths available within Energy Management.
Placements see pupils working in our Energy Bureau, Customer support and other departments including Marketing, IT Support, Accounts and HR. We offer these school pupils an introduction to the work environment. Our staff take the time to welcome and coach these young people. It is a great opportunity for TEAM staff to mentor, supervise and encourage placement students. The young people benefit from learning new skills, and the chance to put in practice some of the skills learned at school.
Deborah Sibley, Human Resources Manager explains “We try to tailor the work experience to the career aspirations and interests of the individual. We find out what they want from the placement to make sure it is a valuable experience for them, and also for us. Most have an interest in energy management and then a secondary interest such as IT, or Accounting, in which case we try and create additional opportunities for them to work in those specific departments. They are set real tasks which contribute towards the daily running of the business. Working closely with the students, we like to ensure they go away with a positive impression of working life and energy management.
“I have gained new skills that I didn’t have before that will be useful in later life. Everyone is really friendly and works together. My favourite bit of the whole placement experience has been meeting new friends and getting to know them.”
“I would highly recommend work experience to others who are yet to have theirs. I have really enjoyed working with TEAM. The colleagues at TEAM are really friendly, and they allowed me to settle in with ease. I have really enjoyed working at TEAM and feel it has been a valuable experience for me.”
“I have been working in the Energy Services department as a Technical Administrator. My role involves assisting engineers and consultants in the team. This includes carrying out some interesting tasks for the department using creativities and analytical skills, such as creating reports and marketing research. The company also provides both professional training and internal training to staff, which has been very helpful to my individual development and learning. It has been a pleasure working for TEAM, the people are very supportive, friendly and are willing to mentor you, I am now going back to University to finish my engineering degree.”

The TEAM work experience and internship programme offers work-based learning opportunities to support career development and to open up opportunities through gaining experience working in the Energy efficiency sector.
As a TEAM intern you will spend a stimulating and rewarding summer gaining an understanding of how an international software and consultancy business operates, as well as getting experience of the wider energy and sustainability industry.
We offer a comprehensive training programme of in-house courses from internal and external based system learning to energy legislation and best practice courses.
We give our interns access to the inner workings of TEAM, the website and internal systems, in order that they take on a role which contributes to the business.
We expect our staff to give their time, and share knowledge to help our interns to fit in and to learn while they are here.
