Reasons to start ESOS phase 2 now

The deadline for ESOS Phase 2 is 5th December 2019.

Although this deadline is over 20 months away, TEAM’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme’s lead assessor, Justine Grant, gives 7 reasons why you should start now:

  1. Quality Lead Assessors are a requirement and they will be more in demand the closer you get to the deadlines. TEAM’s qualified ESOS Lead Assessors can complete, oversee or review energy audits, ensure they meet the requirements of ESOS, and sign off on the overall ESOS compliance submission.
  2. Spread the workload to suit your business needs. Different energy streams can be audited at different times which allows you to manage your workforce and your audit schedule more easily.
  3. Make sure your organisation is compliant! The Environment Agency (EA) have investigated 2,400 organisations, made 240 organisations participate by serving an enforcement notice and have 190 enforcement notice cases ongoing.
  4. Reduce overheads! Early adoption will help improve your business’s energy efficiency.
  5. Budgeting. The earlier you start, the longer you have to spread costs.
  6. With the impending end to CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) April 2019, the CCL (Climate Change Levy) is scheduled to increase to match the lost revenue. CCL is an energy tax which aims to increase energy efficiency. Reducing energy consumption will be urgent in order to save tax.
  7. Avoid penalties! By getting ahead earlier you are reducing the risk of missing deadlines and therefore incurring fines. Failure to submit assessments on time, can incur a variety of penalties from the EA for the non-compliant company. These can range from publication of non-compliance on the EA’s website, to a £50,000 fixed penalty plus £500 per day.

So, don’t delay, it pays to get ahead.

Phase 2 has now come to an end, so we recommend taking a look at our ESOS Phase 3 Compliance page.
