TEAM Senior Energy Consultant completes first progress report for pan-European energy company.
The Capacity Market (CM) was established as part of the UK Government’s Electricity Market Reform (EMR) Programme. Its goal is to ensure the future security of our electricity supply at the lowest cost to consumers by offering incentives to capacity providers for investing in more sustainable, low-carbon electricity.
TEAM’s Capacity Market independent technical expert has completed the first six-month progress report and the financial commitment milestone report for RWE and is currently working towards delivering the next report due at the end of the year.
Senior Energy Consultant Helder Galrinho, is an experienced Independent Technical Expert (ITE). He has the international experience required to be authorised to carry out the Independent Technical Reports needed for organisations to enter into the Capacity Market.
RWE approached TEAM at the end of 2016 to find an ITE as a way to comply with the rules of the capacity market.
They fall into the T-1 tier and will be providing electricity to the National Grid in 2018.
Helder explains…
Grimsby power station will generate “standby” electricity for using 10 containerised gas reciprocating engine units with a 20MW electrical export capacity. The plant will be switched on to instantly generate power during times when peak consumer demand causes “stress” in the electricity generating system, the plant will also produce stop-gap power when renewable energy systems are unable to produce enough electricity. The duration of the capacity agreement is 15 years.
In addition, TEAM are supporting Power and Energy Systems Limited with our service and they will become a capacity provider in the latter part of 2018.
