UK Sees Hottest Day of the Year as 38.1C Recorded in Kew Gardens
The UK has experienced its hottest day of the year and fifth hottest day on record, as a heatwave that gripped much of the country peaked at 38.1C on Thursday, the Met Office said.
Kew Gardens in west London recorded England’s highest temperature. The latest spell of extreme heat marks the UK’s fifth heatwave this year, with the Met Office warning this summer is on course to be the UK’s hottest since records began.
World’s Oceans Hit Record-High July Temperatures
The world’s oceans hit their hottest ever recorded temperatures for July, partly fuelled by developing El Niño conditions in the Pacific, according to the EU’s climate monitoring service.
The average sea surface temperature (SST) outside the world’s polar regions – between 60 degrees north and 60 degrees south – was 20.96C last month, beating the previous high of 20.89C, set in 2023.
