New research from Barclays’ Business Prosperity Index shows that 60% of UK businesses have either already invested in heat adaptation measures or are considering doing so, highlighting a growing recognition that climate resilience is now a business priority.

Government Confirms £1.5bn to Boost NHS Climate Adaptation
The UK Government has confirmed £1.5bn of investment in NHS resilience projects, including funding for cooling and ventilation improvements to help hospitals adapt to more frequent extreme heat events. New data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has confirmed that August 2026 was the joint warmest month ever recorded globally. This proves that building resilience into estates, infrastructure and operations is becoming just as important as reducing emissions.
Government Backs £90m Heat Network Expansion to Cut Energy Bills
The UK Government has announced a £90m investment to support new and upgraded heat networks, helping to bring bills down for over 750,000 homes. The investment includes a £41m ‘mega heat project’ under and alongside the River Thames, which is set to bring clean heat to 650,000 homes.
Andy Burnham: UK Must Fully Commit to Reaching Net Zero by 2050
The UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to reaching net zero by 2050, arguing that climate change is no longer a future risk but reality communities are already experiencing through heatwaves, wildfires and extreme weather.
Burnham said “The climate crisis is not a distant threat. It is here and with us now. The British people are no longer insulated from the consequences, and they do not want to be excluded from the solutions.”

The UNEP has released a new report concluding that global average temperature driven by greenhouse gas emission is now almost certain to “overshoot” the totemic lower 1.5C warming threshold set out in the Paris Agreement.
