Last weekend TEAM and EDW Technology took part in the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival as part of an impressive charity fundraising day.
The Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival brings local businesses together for a fun and enjoyable day out. TEAM and EDW Technology were proud to be a sponsor of the event which raised money for national charity MacIntyre which is also based in Milton Keynes.
MacIntyre supports children, young people and adults who have a learning disability. In Milton Keynes alone, they support around 200 people in a variety of settings.
EDW Technology historically has entered a team to this festival and this is the first big charity event, since the acquisition of TEAM Energy, that brings both organisations together.
Simon Miles, CEO of EDW Technology Ltd and TEAM Energy, said:
“Entering a joint EDW & TEAM crew in the Dragon Boat Race this year provided a lively way for everyone to bond outside of the workplace – and work together with a bit of a sporting challenge. We had lots of enthusiastic volunteers this year and everyone put huge efforts into organising and training for the day”
The crew of 16, plus a drummer, was made up of experienced EDW rowers, including Simon Miles, and TEAM employees who have never rowed before. They took part in 3 quick and intense races.
Simon went on to say:
“We were sad to have not made it through to the semi-finals, only getting to position 22 out of 41, but we were proud of our efforts and commitment to training before the event. It was also a great opportunity for all the staff to mingle and cheer on the races”
“We’d like to congratulate Kuehne + Nagel for winning the competition and the event organisers, Gable Events, for making it such a fun day”
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun! Up to 16 people paddle each 40’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and our helm at the tail steering a straight course.
