Electricity demand in Great Britain is expected to almost treble by 2050, highlighting the need to accelerate clean power and storage

The Future Energy Scenarios report published by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) said it expects to see electricity demand increase from 290TWh now to as much as 785 TWh by 2050.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has published its Clean Flexibility Roadmap, focusing on enabling a secure and affordable energy system powered by renewable sources. The Government is aiming for 95% of the UK’s electricity generation mix to be renewable and nuclear by 2030.

Zapmap publishes public chargepoint installation statistics for H125

Zapmap published statistics on the number of public chargepoint installations through H125. It states that 8,670 new chargepoints were installed during the period, a 27% year-on-year increase, bringing the total number of electric vehicle (EV) public chargepoints to 82,369. Zapmap notes that charging hubs had the highest growth, with 136 of them installed across the UK – bringing the total to 673.

Onshore Wind Taskforce Strategy published to help meet Clean Power 2030

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) published its Onshore Wind Taskforce Strategy setting out how the UK Government will increase the deployment of onshore wind to help meet its Clean Power 2030 targets of 27-29GW of onshore wind capacity in GB. The Onshore Wind Taskforce Strategy sets out 42 actions, primarily made up of Government commitments, to address challenges of onshore wind development.

Ofgem says yes to £24bn grid upgrade

Ofgem has given provisional approval to a £24 billion investment plan to overhaul Britain’s electricity and gas networks, with 80 major infrastructure projects set to be completed by 2030.
The move marks the biggest electricity grid expansion since the 1960s and aims to secure homegrown energy, shield billpayers from global gas price shocks, and accelerate the transition to net zero.

The latest State of the UK Climate report highlights that the UK’s climate has warmed steadily since the 1980s causing some species to suffer.
