Large companies face continued challenges in getting sustainability reporting right challenges

Analysis by Deloitte found that almost half of the FTSE 100 companies made restatements on their sustainability metrics in 2025 for the second year running. Most of the restatements related to greenhouse gas metrics.

The most common reason for a prior year adjustment was a change in method (35%) followed by adjusting for errors in historical (26%).

Steve Farrell, partner and head of sustainability assurance at Deloitte UK, said: “Whilst the number of companies with material adjustments is the same as last year, this remains a significantly high amount, with continued challenges in getting sustainability reporting right.

“However, some of these companies have adjusted due to data improvements – that’s a real positive – showing reporters are focusing on better quality reporting.”

EAC launches enquiry into Government net zero plans

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) launched an inquiry exploring the Government’s long-term plans to decarbonise the UK economy on the path to net zero by 2050. The EAC will consider the measures needed to achieve the Seventh Carbon Budget, covering 2038-2042, detailing how much emissions need to reduce by and how this can be supported by technology, behaviour change, and a growing economy. NHS reduces carbon emissions and makes financial savings

In line with their Greener NHS Plan, the organisation has announced their five years net zero update. With direct emissions down 68% since 1990 and 14% in the last five years, they are certainly on track to reach our 2032 and 2040 goals.

The last five years represent less than 7% of the NHS’ history, yet progress towards net zero has been transformative. Since 2020, on-site renewable energy production has more than tripled – generating enough electricity to power 4,500 homes annually. Across their vast estate of 13,500 buildings on 2,869 sites, over half now use energy-efficient LED lighting. The number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points at NHS sites has surged from fewer than 1,500 in 2020 to more than 4,200 today. Great news and progress from the NHS!
